PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
TRANSITION TO RETIREMENT
A person with a developmental disability, like any other person, has the option of retirement from their life in the workforce. However, a person may not look forward to retirement due to fears of economic loss, loss of socialization and friendships, isolation and boredom. Individualized assessments and transition plans are necessary to support the person in a successful transition to a fulfilling retirement. Each retirement plan is custom designed and may also include supports for family members.
RETIREMENT GROUPS
AADD’s Senior Support groups meet at local senior centers and provide an opportunity to learn about issues important to all seniors, socialize with others of similar backgrounds, and develop lasting, caring relationships. People make and keep their friends.
IN-HOME SUPPORT
Sometimes, in addition to community involvement and activities, there is also a need for help in the home of an individual. Supports may include assistance with bill paying, shopping, meal preparation, cooking, housekeeping, personal care, hygiene, medication administration, problem solving, or other individualized needs. Depending on the need, AADD may directly provide these supports or assist in locating the needed resources. AADD helps you stay in your home.
SOCIAL CLUBS
AADD Social Clubs provide group socialization and recreation for adults, age 21 and over, with a developmental disability. AADD Social Clubs meet on Saturday evenings, from 6:30p.m. to 10:30p.m. Activities include movies, dinner out, musicals, bowling, sporting events, dancing and special events. For more information about any AADD Social Clubs activities, or to make a reservation, please call AADD at (314) 647-2203. Transportation from home is available to residents of the City of St. Louis.
